Aspen in winter, March 2009
After a long winter of not really getting out and taking next to no photos a colleague of mine and I decided to go for a short hike at the always beautiful Blomidon Provincial Park. What was supposed to be a leisurely hike on a Saturday afternoon of around 4 or 5 kilometres, turned into a 12 kilometre trudge through the snow. In the end it turned out all right, but I didn’t get to take many photos. In fact, I only got three, of which this is one.
It was cloudy but bright and it had just started to snow lightly. So into this stand of bare Aspen we came and I thought the light was perfect. There was very little wind, if any, so the whole place felt totally peaceful. I like the dark patches on the trees against the white of the snow, it provides a great contrast and gives the trees a frail look. It was worth the sore legs.
