Flower, Halifax Public Gardens (Two)

I was taking a colour photography course at the local art and design university and had to shoot a roll of film each week for class. It was a fairly warm September so I thought I’d see if there were any flowers left in the Public Gardens, on my walk home from work.

The early evening sun was low and bright, perfect for creating some backlit shots of flowers in their final glory of the season. I didn’t really notice the blue background when I was shooting, but it’s what makes this photo what it is. The contrast between the sunny yellow of the flower against the dark, purply blue of the background makes for an interesting colour mix. The lens flare could be seen as a distracting flaw, but I think it adds some movement to the shot.
